Quinn Goes to School

It is hard to beleive that Quinn had his 1st day of Pre-School this past Friday. For a long time I had been trying to get him "evaluated" for his speech. He says a gajillion words, but isn't talking in full sentences and sometimes (especially to the untrained ear), he can be hard to understand. I contacted Early Intervention here in Mesa and finally after months and months, Quinn has been enrolled in a Pre-School where he will meet with a speech therapist once a week. This is all still very new to us, but my understanding is that there will also be a speech therapist in the classroom a lot of the time to observe and interact with the kids. I am hoping that just being around kids his age and learning new things will bring him out of his shell. I talked school up so that hopefully the 1st day wouldn't be too tough on him. And he actually did quite well. We went and let him pick out his very own backpack and told him all the things he was going to do at school. When we walked in the classroom he instantly became shy, but when we met all the other kids and walked to the playground to play, he seemed to do all right. I snuck away at this point and the teacher said when he realized I was gone, he cried a little, but after that he did great! Phew!!! I think this is going to be a great experience for him! (and for me!)

The only picture of he and I before the big day, and it is out of focus!!

And Quinn Turns 3

Talk about your February birthdays! We are 3 out of 4 here in the Scanlan household. So Quinn turned 3 on Feb. 15. It was a mellow day mostly because we did all the celebrating with family the week before. However, I woke up feeling terrible that we were just going to skim over his actual birthday. So we decided to meet Jason for lunch and go to Chuck E. Cheese. (and so that nightmare begins...) He had a great time and I am glad that we did it! The party the week before was for his and Lucy's birthdays. We had both sets of grandparents over and had a nice dinner and cupcakes for dessert. Quinn thoroughly enjoyed all the presents he got and it was the first time he unwrapped something and actually showed some emotion over what was inside! Favorite quote of the night "wow. Wow! WOW!" He also helped Lucy open all her gifts and it has been quite the challenge to explain to him that even though he opened them, they are Lucy's gifts.

Lucy Turns One

Lucy "eyeing" her presents
Lucy lovin' her some cake
It kind of turned out to be a "Valentine" themed party....but hey!!
Em with her 2 biggest accomplishments.....seriously

Dad with his favorite people

Lucy is seriously the easiest baby ever! (does every mom say that?) She is so sweet and kissable! This past year went by so fast! She is growing and learning and doing the cutest things. Some of my favorite moments:

Walking into her room to get her in the morning. She sits up, smiles and puts her arms out.
Watching her in my rearview mirror. She smiles and fake laughs for me when she sees me watching.
Giving her a bath. She smiles and kicks and splashes the whole time.
Hearing her laugh!
When I pick her up off the floor, her feet latch onto my hip just like a little monkey.

She wants to be big so badly. Although she is not walking yet, she is getting close! She sees what her big brother can do and wants to do the same! Here are some photos of bath time!! Love it!! And love you Miss Lucy Jane! Happy Birthday!

The Race

Wow! I did it! I completed the PF Chang's Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon. I wasn't sure I was going to be able to do it after I had the flu the week leading up to the race. But somehow I ran it and finished! My time was terrible and slow, but now it gives me something to try and beat! 2 hours and 24 min. It was a great experience and I definitely want to do it again....only this time I want to be healthy!!Here are the other 2 rock stars that flew out to do the marathon. On the left is my sister in law Angi and the girl on the right is Lesley, her sister. Lesley ran the full marathon and didn't look like she broke a sweat! (that is water on her shirt) It sort of turned out to be a girls weekend because my sister Shannon and my other sisterin law Michele also came out. It was such fun to have all the girls together! Here we all are the night of the marathon enjoying a great big dinner, on Bob! Thanks Dad!
I am sure there is so much more I could say about the marathon and fun weekend that we all had together, but my time is limited today.....I promise to continue the blog, but maybe not as often as I should!!!
